Origin:
Macedenglish is hybrid language which incorporates the use of both English and Macedonian in everyday conversation, whereby
both languages can be, and are, used interchangeably within the same sentence. It is
spoken by roughly 400 current and past Peace
Corps Volunteers, government officials, and
private contractors operating within the Republic of Macedonia. It is heavily influenced
by said persons’ inability and incompetence
in functionally using Macedonian as a 1st
language. In this instance, they use simple
Macedonian words and phrases alongside
English words and phrases as a means of
communicating with the native Macedonian
population.
