Macedonia Model United Nations
By Mary Hulse, MAK 16
The 2013 Macedonia Model United Nations( MMUN) Conference took place on May 18th at the Economics College in Prilep. The conference was attended by 180 students from high schools and universities throughout Macedonia. These students filled roles as delegates or committee chairs. PCVs assisted during set-up, at registration, as Team Leaders, as Adult Advisers( serving as aids during committee meetings), serving lunch, logistics, cleanup, and over-all coordination of the conference. Over 23 volunteers helped out at the day’ s event. Teams came from Tetovo, Gostivar, Kumanovo, Skopje, Berovo, Bitola, Delchevo, Kavadarci, Kochani,
Struga, Prilep, Shtip, and Sveti Nikole. These teams represented 24 UN countries such as
Brazil, Colombia, France, Guatemala, Indonesia, Jordan, Nigeria, South Africa, the UK, Somalia, America, Serbia, and many more, with several schools representing more than one country. The MMUN Conference was considered a success by all because those that attended enjoyed themselves, gained new skills, made friends, and had the opportunity to discuss issues that concern everyone. Students came together to draft resolutions to address those concerns and there are many eager delegates that cannot wait to participate next year!
