The embroidery work is done free hand( no embroidery hoop) by the intellectually handicapped beneficiaries at my primary site, ПОРАКА НЕГОТИНО( PORAKA NEGO- TINO) in Negotino. It is a leading NGO with the mission to protect the rights and dignity of persons with intellectual disabilities and their families, as well as promote their full integration in all spheres of society.
The carved wooden plaques are made by Macedonian artisans working at Стари Занаети( Old Crafts) in Negotino, an organization I have been involved with this past year. It is an NGO which was established in 2004 by a group of enthusiasts dedicated to reviving and preserving the old Macedonian crafts( especially wood carving) and improve the material and social conditions of the citizens of the region. Proceeds from the sale of their work enable the organization to work toward those goals as well as to teach others these skills in order to continue their work.
The carved plaques are 6”- 8” tall and will have the PCV’ s site and service years carved in the wood. They come with a hanger affixed to the back
