Adventures in Travel By David Fox, MAK 9 A trip home is always exciting especially when it’s been nearly 2 years. The adventure starts with how to get there and what to do on those long, lengthy, lethargic stays at the airport waiting on your flight. On the way to America, I was supposed to get up at 5 AM and catch a flight to Frankfurt at 7. Well, that flight was changed to 9, which meant I couldn’t catch my 11:00 flight to Dallas, so I was rerouted through Chicago, only to wait there another 6 hours due to stormy weather before I could finally get home to see friendly faces. I’m a member of the Hospitality Club, which basically is an online way to meet with people as you travel. Some, like me, offer you a place to stay. While I was in Frankfurt, I utilized the club and had a very pleasant day with 2 wonderful people. I enjoyed my conversations of history and culture of Germany, from where much of my family originates. Home was lovely. 2 weddings, lots of catching up and seeing how the niece and nephew are growing up. I also had lunch with a friend I hadn’t seen since high school. That was cool, as well as hanging out with lots of other friends. After nearly a month at home, it’s now time for the adventure back. Well, if you know ahead of time you’ll be stuck at the Frankfurt airport for 12+ hours, I’d highly recommend a chance to get out of the airport and see the city. On the ground level of the airport, there’s a place to store luggage, and down in the subway, just 5 stops from the airport is the center of the city. I’d arranged ahead of time to meet someone in the city to show me around We went inside old churches, malls, a few museums, and had an interesting lunch in the local cuisine. The World cup was hosting Korea that day and we had the chance to see some traditional dancers and musicians perform in the center. The premier of South Korea was also present. Page 12
