Offender reentry planning and preparation begins when an offender starts their sentence with the Georgia Department of Corrections ( GDC ). Through GDC Transitional Services , offenders are provided with reentry resources , such as collaborating with various agencies that support offender placement into evidence-based interventions . These interventions assist offenders in working toward a seamless reentry system that aids returning citizens in becoming law-abiding , productive community citizens . Offenders returning to the metro Atlanta area are offered an opportunity to transition to the Metro Reentry Facility , which focuses on the primary targets of effective offender interventions of criminal thinking , substance abuse , education , and employment .
