Farewell from Mr . Timothy C . Ward
At GDC , change and progress are the norm . Today , I reach out to all of you to let you know that effective January 1 , 2023 , I will be leaving my position as your Commissioner and will be appointed to the Board of Pardons and Paroles . Tyrone Oliver , current Commissioner of the Department of Juvenile Justice , has been approved by the Board of Corrections to serve as your new Commissioner .
To say it has been an honor to work alongside the best team in state government would be an understatement . Since beginning my career here as a Correctional Officer 30 years ago , I have been blessed to have built so many lifelong friendships as well as been given amazing opp01tunities for growth .
Know it is because of you , the GDC team , that this agency has made remarkable strides . In the last few years alone , we have achieved many milestones including long overdue pay raises , expansion of mental health services , funding for a new facility , and a successful transition to our new healthcare vendor .
I am positive that GDC is on a path for continued success as you move forward . I will be watching proudly as you continue to do great things and I will always be an advocate for you and the GDC !
Please give Tyrone a warm Corrections welcome and support him as you have me over the years . ONE TEAM !
