Blind songwriter and guitarist Clarence Carter is an American musician, record producer and
above all an extremely charismatic blues and soul singer. Carter attended the Alabama School
for the Blind in Talladega, and Alabama State College in Montgomery, by the time he was
twenty four he was already graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in music.
On Patches (1970), Clarence Carter chronicles Patches tormenting childhood, who, like the
singer was also born and raised in Alabama. The song is considered by lots “particularly
remarkable” not only for its deep electrifying lyrics but also for Carter's passionate and well
known vocal style that he used on ballads. After all mixing Carter’s impeccable singing with
such an awfully well composed lyric couldn’t go wrong.
