Old Fort Jupiter Marker
1133 N . ALTERNATE A1A , JUPITER
The first Fort Jupiter , a crude stockade , was erected on what is now Pennock Point in January 1838 after the Battle of the Loxahatchee , the last standing battle of the Second Seminole War . A second fort was built in 1855 across the river where Jupiter Plantation is today . The marker commemorating the first fort , which was erected by the Seminole Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution , can be found inside Sawfish Bay Park .

JUPITER
One of only two waterways in Florida to receive the “ Wild and Scenic ” designation and protection from the federal government , the Loxahatchee River meanders from freshwater creeks into a brackish estuary and finally empties through the Jupiter Inlet into the Atlantic Ocean . The river contains 10 major freshwater and saltwater habitats that provide homes for a wide variety of wildlife across 260 square miles .
