Prohibition Takes Its Place

By: Jordan Kuster

Today, on January 17th, the ban

of all alcoholic beverages goes into

effect. What does this mean? It means

that there is a permanent ban on the

sale, transportation, exportation,

importation, and consumption of any

type of alcoholic beverages. They say

it’s because of the “evils” these bever-

ages bring. They say that it’s causing

“a new type of crime.” What does this mean for America and our bars, and our restaurants? They’ll obviously lose money any business which will hurt them tremendously. Which could relate to an economic downturn, because the more money the business are making, the better the economy. Ever since America has become America, we’ve had our alcohol. Our founding fathers would have a drink every now and then. But let’s get to the reasons why they banned alcohol: They said it will be better for our health, with the large number of men getting Sclerosis medical professionals have concluded its from drinking. Also, many men would either show up to work drunk, which is unsafe when working with heavy machinery or they just wouldn’t show up for work at all, making production slow down and the business cannot reach their demand. Lastly, men would start spending their families’ savings on alcohol, money that could be used to buy a car, fix up their house, or send their children to school. But why let a few bad apples spoil the bunch? So obviously, it concerns the government and everyone else when this is happening. But does the government think they can stop the American people from getting alcohol? I mean, this is the country that has fought for what it wanted, and hasn’t lost. There will be those guys who continue to produce and sell their own alcohol and sell it without the government or the police force finding out. This could be more dangerous than the imported beverages because they are brewed correctly and made in clean factories. I’ve heard of people brewing their own alcohol before this ban, and it is much more strong and dangerous. So the government can have their choice. It can either be people producing their own alcohol, or they can lift the ban, put a few restrictions on it and give it back to the public.
