went down due to mass production and three out of four cars were bought on installment plans. Beginning about 20 years ago in 1906, the government paid 96% of the funds for new roads since the roads were only made for horses and carriages and they were rapidly deteriorating. But recently in 1927, the government has only been paying about 37% of the funds. Local law enforcement started to create new road rules, start putting up road signs, and had to conduct a method of traffic control like traffic lights in populated areas. Many people have been on the move and taking touring vacations but they always had to be careful with traveling long
distances because the cars
weren’t as stable and they
had a tendency to break down
. The services such as gas
stations and motels were also
rising rapidly due to the tour-
ing vacations. As the Model-T
was becoming cheaper and
cheaper, there were more
expensive vehicles such as Rolls Royce and Duisenberg which were for the wealthier people. Also recently, the “new ford”, the Model-A vehicle was just released about 2 years ago in 1927 which replaced the long-standing Model-T after 18 years. Earlier cars were convertibles which were more common for touring but car makers were now putting heat into the cars to improve passenger comfort. Car advertisements were very sophisticated during this decade. In the previous years, ads had focused on specifications of a certain car or the horsepower but in these past years, ads had focused on people’s emotions instead of their intelligence. Many manufacturers targeted women drivers by advertising in women’s magazines and making cars more appealing to women such as the color or the style of the interior. Overall, the automobile had a very great impact on the society and people’s daily lives from 1920 to the present, 1929. From being able to drive to the grocery store with the family to going on vacations with friends, the
automobile was a great success
throughout this decade!
