Enabling Progress for all
During a lesson, you need to check the learning of all students is taking place. These are a range of techniques that can be used.
Traffic Lights
I have laminated traffic light cards in a set, bound
by a treasury tag. Each student has a set and can
be asked to hold it in the air or turn it over on their
desk so I can see it as I walk around. This is great
for developing independence and self-awareness.
Red, green and yellow pieces of card/ paper also work.
Word of warning: Students may not always be able to judge how well a task is going so don't just stop to check on your red and yellow students as your greens may be getting on fine with the task set but they may have interpreted it incorrectly.
Confidence lines
=Students can say which end they're at, they could stand where they think their confidence is at or they could use sticky notes to place themselves at one end or another. The most vital part of this activity is for students to justify their decision.
Word of warning: Students may not be willing to admit this in front of the peers. You could ask them to write it individually in their books or close their eyes as they each held up their hand to say they were totally confident, a little confident or not at all confident.
Socrative
@ICTEvangelist looks at the use of Socrative in his
classroom to measure progress.
Take a look here at a presentation about how to use Socrative in the classroom.
