PHSC Scores with Inaugural Flag Football Team

When the National Junior College Athletic Association ( NJCAA ) made a $ 10,000 grant available to start a Flag Football program , Pasco-Hernando State College took advantage of the opportunity . The NJCAA cited PHSC ’ s strong application , past success and support of intercollegiate athletics as a reason for awarding the grant . The funds received from the grant were utilized to pay the coaching supplement of Madison Burr , a former Pasco County football standout from Gulf High who earned All-Conference , All-County and All-State honors as a junior and senior . PHSC already had flag football equipment from previous intramural activities and PHSC ’ s Student Life and Leadership Department provided travel funds . Having secured additional funding for scholarships , the first PHSC Women ’ s Flag Football recruit was Victoria Gray and for the first year , the team recruited twelve women for the roster .

Participating in the first Women ’ s Flag Football season at PHSC had a significant effect on me , my teammates , and the community . It gave us women an amazing opportunity in flag football . It encouraged us to stick together and will hopefully encourage other female athletes to follow their dreams ! - Logan Lutz
The team was honored to be recognized at the February PHSC District Board of Trustees meeting . The Bobcats played a scrimmage in the fall term and the first regular season games were rained out in Lake City , Florida . The first regular season games took place in Georgia at the Reinhardt University Annual tournament . Symirah Williams , a recruit from Clearwater , Florida scored the first ever PHSC Flag Football Touchdown at the Reinhardt Tournament . The Bobcats finished their 8-game inaugural season at home on PHSC ’ s Withlacoochee River Electric Co-op Park against Florida Gateway College , the reigning NJCAA National Champions of Women ’ s Flag Football . At the game , the team presented PHSC President an autographed ball from the team . The team took great pride in being pioneers and paving the way for women ’ s athletics .
