NFL Hall of Famer and former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Derrick Brooks , visited PHSC ’ s Porter Campus last fall to speak at the Community of Champions Luncheon sponsored by LEMA Construction . Brooks discussed the importance of education , lessons learned by winning and losing , and the worklife-family balance promoted by former Buccaneer coaches Tony Dungy and Jon Gruden . This special PHSC 50th Anniversary event was attended by approximately 100 community leaders and PHSC staff and students .

PHSC was honored to have Florida College System Foundation board member , Tim Morris , visit the West Campus to present a donation for student scholarships aimed at relieving the nursing shortage and helping students who are the first in their family to attend college . The generous gift from the Florida College System Foundation will provide funding for the Florida Blue Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship , the Helios Education Foundation First Generation Scholars Program , and the Bank of America Dream Makers Scholarship .
Continuing his support of PHSC students in memory of his wife , David Thomson provided a gift to the Janet G . Thomson Scholarship which has provided financial assistance to 14 students since the scholarship was established in 2012 .
Joan Kohout and Carol Miglino continue to invest in PHSC students in memory of their parents . Their financial support will provide assistance to students through the Mary E . Kohout , R . N . Scholarship and the Henry Kohout , Jr . Scholarship .

Carrying on her husband ’ s legacy at PHSC , Karen Boyer made a generous contribution to the Ken Boyer Memorial Scholarship . After having retired from the Coast Guard , Ken Boyer attended PHSC with aspirations of becoming an English teacher . He was a brilliant writer and often tutored students at the North Campus . The Ken Boyer Memorial Scholarship has benefited 15 students since its establishment in 2010 .
Steve Williams , a PHSC alumnus , of Williams & Ackley continues to help transform the lives of our students with a generous scholarship donation .
