asco-Hernando State College students,
faculty and staff embraced the spirit of the
Bobcat during Welcome Week in August.
“The Bobcat conveys bold confidence, loyalty, and
courage —all characteristics that we value at the
College and in our student athletes,” said Steve
Winterling, PHSC’s Athletic Director and Head Baseball
Coach, who helped orchestrate the search for a mascot.
The Bobcat replaces the College’s long-time mascot,
Conquor the Conquistador, who retired last spring.
Though a clear winner over Coyotes, Cubs, Golden
Eagles, Rangers and Suns when open voting concluded
last February, selecting the Bobcat as a mascot
successor was only the beginning of the long road to
implementing the new mascot into the PHSC culture.
