PHSC Students Continue to Benefit from Community Foundation of Sarasota County
The PHSC Foundation received a $ 40,000 grant from the Edward K. Roberts Community College Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. Beginning over the summer term and continuing throughout this academic year, the Edward K. Roberts Community College Fund will provide scholarship support to PHSC students.
Preference will be given to part-time students who may not qualify for other financial aid, as well as students who are parents. Since 2011, this fund has provided over $ 670,000 to assist PHSC students through scholarships.
Raised by a single mother, Roberts experienced firsthand the effort and perseverance needed in order to achieve his goals despite the barriers he faced. Roberts’ s success afforded him the ability to become a generous lifelong donor to PHSC. He relocated to Sarasota and, upon his death in 2009, established the Edward K. Roberts Community College Fund of the Community Foundation.
As a single mother of three, balancing school work and family has not always been easy, but receiving this scholarship eases the financial burden and allows me to focus more fully on my studies. My goal is to become a registered nurse specializing in critical care, and this scholarship brings me one step closer to reaching that dream.
