FOUNDATION NEWS Florida Medical Clinic Foundation of Caring Supports Future Health Care Professionals F lorida Medical Clinic, incorporating several east Pasco locations, provides comprehensive health care services to our communities. In addition to helping to meet the health care demands of Pasco County, the organization provides essential local employment, including over 30 PHSC alumni. Florida Medical Clinic created their Foundation of Caring in 2005 to support local individuals, children and families in need. Their generosity has assisted over 90 nonprofit organizations including the PHSC Foundation through volunteerism and grants. The Foundation of Caring’s most recent donation to the PHSC Foundation provided a grant of more than $10,000 to purchase state of the art equipment for nursing and health program simulation laboratories. The equipment utilizes innovative technology to elevate student training including opportunities to learn in a simulated medical environment. “We want students to make mistakes here in our simulation labs. They learn more when they make mistakes, and it is better to Angela Pottinger, Florida Medical Clinic, with patient “Henry” and Julie Monsegur in simulation laboratory. 10 PHSC Perspective make mistakes on our manikins than on live patients. That is why it is so important for us to have the same equipment that is used in hospitals for our students to practice on,” explained Billie Gabbard, Ed.D, BSN, RN, Dean of Nursing and Health Occupations. PHSC looks forward to deepening its partnership with Florida Medical Clinic to serve the growing health care needs of our community.
