MNI In Memoriam NOTES Mary E. Kohout, R.N. believed in education and learning her entire life. At the age of 16, due to financial concerns within her family, she left high school without a diploma and started working to support her family. Following her marriage and starting a family, Mary was determined to complete her education. She enrolled in a GED program and earned her high school diploma in 1947. Upon moving to Florida in 1972, Mary pursued her dream of becoming a nurse and enrolled in the nursing program at PHSC. She graduated and received her R.N. degree in 1980 at the age of 53. Mary became one of the first nurses to be employed at the newly opened Bayonet Point Regional Hospital. Mary was a very caring and dedicated nurse. She continually renewed her R.N. license until last year at the age of 89. Sadly, Mary passed away in November 2017. Her family has established the Mary E. Kohout Memorial Scholarship in her honor which will be awarded to a PHSC nursing student during the 2018-2019 academic year. ur o y s u Send NOTE CLASS Pasco-Hernando State College is proud of its alumni and their achievements.
