TOP-NOTCH SERVICE IS A STAPLE
T
he family owned and operated store
Wadesboro Lumber and Barn got it’s
start during a road trip. Dock T. “Big
Daddy” Donahue, Jr. was riding with his
family when they came through Wadesboro.
They saw the lot and thought the location,
right on Highway ‘74 was perfect. The rest
was history.
Wadesboro Lumber and Barns opened
in Sep., 2000. Since then, they have been
supplying the hardworking town of
Wadesboro and surrounding areas with
quality building supplies. Dock would own
and operate the store until his passing in Aug.
of 2018.
Dock was born in 1961 in Monroe, NC to
Dock Thomas and Gatha Price Donahue.
Dock began his start in the lumber business
as a teenager in 1977 while working for a
man named Bill Stallings in Jefferson, SC.
The 80’s and 90’s saw Dock operating stores
in Jefferson and Camden, SC. In addition to
the stores, Dock also owned and operated
Donahue Farms in Ruby, S.C. as well as Triple
D Farms in Mt. Croghan, S.C.
Wanda and Dock met and began dating
in the 70’s. They would get married in Mt.
Croghan, SC on June, 20 1980. Wanda and
Dock have two sons and five grand children,
three boys and two girls. don’t have to go looking for help, we’re right
there,” Nina added.
Dock left Wadesboro Lumber and Barns to
his wife and sons, Kevin and Sandy, upon his
passing. Since then, they have continued to
dedicate themselves to providing top notch
customer service to the community while
keeping the same ethics and morals Dock
engraved in the company. Wadesboro and North Carolina both may
have changed a lot over the past 20 years, but
Wadesboro Lumber and Barns has remained
essentially the same. “We haven’t seen many
changes,” said Kevin, “It’s still pretty much
the same friendly people and good, loyal
customers.”
Nina Dean, Dock’s niece, is the secretary
and has been with the company since 2002.
“Dock always said she would be a part of it,”
said Wanda. While they remain busy all year round,
Wadesboro Lumber and Barns get the most
business during the summer, spring, and tax
seasons. They sell their products to an equal
mix of homeowners and contractors.
Wanda and sons live in Mt. Croghan, SC
while Nina resides in Pageland, SC. They
all make the trek daily to Wadesboro. “The
friendly people are why we’re here. It’s a
hardworking community,” said Nina.
The late Dock always prided himself on
providing superb customer service. “When
they walk in the door, you get on them!” was
his motto. “I guess that’s why I’m the way I
am. When the customer walks through the
door, I’m going to present myself to them,”
said Nina. Wadesboro Lumber and Barns
dedication to their customers makes them
stand out among the crowd. “Our customers
