M e e t G e o r g e S i n g e r , R e s i d e n t o f t h e M o n t h George Singer was born Nov. 25, 1939 in El Dorado, Nebraska, to Sarah May and George Orville Singer. When George was an infant his father stepped on a nail, contracted lock-jaw, and passed away. When George was two years old his mother married Lester Lauhead, and moved to Stockham, Nebraska. Lester worked on a farm while Sarah stayed home to raise George and his three half-siblings, Cina, May, and Lester Jr. George attended many schools in Nebraska growing up, including one with Mennonites as classmates. He spent most of his high school career at Henderson High School, but graduated from Hampton High School. During his school years, George spent time doing farm work with his family. He stayed to help around the farm after school, until he found a job working at the Buffalo Bill Ranch in North Platte, Nebraska. He enjoyed working with the bulls and getting them ready for shows. George drove semi-trucks for National By-Products, Inc. and continued working there for several years, driving many routes through California. In 1979, George moved to Springfield, Missouri, to care for his mother. He attended church at Highway Assembly of God in Brighton, Missouri. George met Patsy “Kay” in early 1980 and married her a few months later. Together they had one beautiful daughter, Sarah Kay. The couple faced some challenges, and were later divorced. George and Sarah moved to Salton City, California, after George’s mother passed away in 1988. While in California, he worked at an airport and became a diesel mechanic. George worried about the crime in California, so he sent Sarah to live with his sister, May, in Morrisville, Missouri. Sarah later married Jason Davidson, and they had nine children together. When George became ill, he moved back to Missouri to be close to his family. Throughout his life George has enjoyed riding horses, driving convertibles, playing the guitar and singing. George came to Parkview in June 2020. When asked his favorite part about living here, he said, “The nurses and the aides are nice and very friendly.” Congratulations, George, on being chosen as Parkview Health Care Facility’s Resident of the Month!
