ii. Goals 1. Protect and improve existing dolomitic glades 2. Protect riparian areas 3. Improve the forested areas iii. Standards The dolomitic glades, home to the Kentucky Gladecress, must be protected and enhanced through invasive species removal. Prescribed burning could be an option in MLP, as it is a more rural setting than most of Metro Parks and Recreation. Additional exhaustive mapping to identify all dolomitic glades, rare plants, animals and habitats is also necessary. iv. Concerns The labor involved for both the invasive species removal and the mapping initiative to identify dolomitic glades is a major concern. Additionally, it is imperative for Parks to work with the KSNPC to learn more about the ecosystem functioning and fire regime of dolomitic glades before applying for a prescribed burn permit. Finally, preserving the quality of riparian areas may be more difficult in McNeely as both a golf course (source of fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides) and recent exurban development will decrease the overall quality of the watershed. 81
