Parks and Recreation System Master Plan Update (2016) parks_and_recreation_system_master_plan_update_oct | Page 165
Attend an entertainment event
Further confirming the social nature of how people spend time in parks, almost 20% of
participants attended entertainment events.
Visit a playground
Almost 18% of the survey participants visit a playground implying that a good many of
the respondents are visiting the playground with their children, grandchildren or other related
individuals. This is further confirmation of the use of parks as gathering places for social
interaction especially for families.
Individual or team sports
16.43% of respondents play golf and represented the largest single sport listed on the
survey. 8.76% participated in aquatics (swimming or sprayground) activities; 6.57% played
tennis; 4.93% fished; 4.05% participated in intramural sports. There are leagues, lessons and
other formal programs related to all of these sports and activities and it is likely that a different
pool of survey respondents might have rated these sports much higher. In addition, we know
that sports such as pickle ball, disc golf, skate boarding and others have seen an increase in the
number of participants.
Educational events, volunteering
6.9% volunteered in parks and 4.49% participated in educational programs.
