full of hungry patrons. Roger is here
tonight to honor another educator
with the Roger Grizzard Innovative
Educator Award. He is one who
understands how to reach today’s
young generation of students.” Its
winner this year was WHS physics
teacher Meagan Loveland.
Just weeks after the Shoes, Roger,
Jeanine and Tyler were in a traf-
fic accident on May 25, 2019 in
Lubbock, where they had attended
a graduation event for a family
member. The crash claimed Roger’s
life. He was 72-years-old. Jeanine
and Tyler were injured.
Weatherford was in shock. Within
hours, the porch of The Pizza Place
was covered with flowers, ribbons
and cards. Everyone wanted to make
one last statement that they loved
Roger and appreciated what he had
done for them, their children, their
town, their school.
His funeral was held in
Weatherford High School’s Durant
Auditorium simply because
Weatherford didn’t have a church or
funeral chapel large enough to hold
all the people who loved Roger.
Weatherford Mayor Paul Paschall
announced that he will issue a proc-
lamation naming July 1, (Roger’s
birthday) as Live Like Roger Day.
“Roger Grizzard was a man that
had a tremendous positive impact on
our entire community,” Paschall said.
“‘Living Like Roger’ is the proper
way for our city and our citizens to
continue to honor Roger moving
forward. The opportunity presents
itself for each of us to make the
commitment to ‘Live Like Roger.’ The
actions that Roger displayed clearly
show us what this looks, sounds and
feels like on a daily basis.”
Weatherford will never forget
Roger.
Weatherford is a much better
community because Roger Grizzard
lived, taught and operated a business
here.
Roger often said, “Whatever
you put into the community will be
returned to you.”
Clearly, Roger was right, but,
then, Roger usually was.
