He was truly an angel on earth. Our family loved him like one of our own. Everyone who knew him felt the same way.” Throughout his entire career, he was a sponsor, counselor, coach, and an enthusiastic cheerleader for Weatherford High School students and teachers. He was an active member of the Weatherford ISD’s Education Foundation Board of Directors and received the district’s first True Blue Kangaroo Fan in 2014 and the Distinguished Service Award from the Ex-student asso- ciation in 2016. Roger was also an ardent supporter of Weatherford College where he served on the Board of Trustees for 22 years, two years of which he was chairman. An active member in the business community and the perfect ambas- sador for Weatherford, The Chamber of Commerce presented Roger with the Outstanding Citizen Award in 1991 and the Small Business of the Year and the James H. Doss Award in 2008. Roger was a member of the Evening Lions Club and served the Senior Center their annual Spaghetti Supper. State Representative Phil King said on May 26, “Roger Grizzard never met a stranger and had a true servant’s heart. He touched so many lives in our community through his long teaching career, running Pizza Place and serving in numerous other capacities. Today, to honor his life, the Texas House of Representatives adjourned in his memory.” At the 2019 PCT’s Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes gala, when introduc- ing Roger, Co-MC, Drew Springer described him in this way, “Roger has been making delicious pizzas for decades along South Main Street, but not only does he feed us with pizza, he fed the minds of students in his economics class and the hearts of all that worked for him.
