In the great state of Texas, there’ s nothing more authentic and genuine than cowboy raised in the Lone Star State.
Whether he sits tall in the saddle in the dusty west Texas wind or helps drive cattle through the lush, green pastures in east Texas, the image of a cowboy is iconic and inviting. The hard work it takes to be a cowboy has been caressed into the souls of people who have been romanced by the Old West.
This is the story of Pete Carr, who fell in love with the cowboy way of life as a youngster growing up in Dallas. It led him to rodeo, first as a competitor and now as owner of Pete Carr Pro Rodeo,
46 PCSP 79TH ANNUAL FRONTIER DAYS one of the greatest livestock contracting companies in the sport’ s history.
It’ s not what rodeo has done for Carr, a list that is extensive and still building. No, it’ s about what Carr has done for rodeo. The work he’ s done following his passions has garnered him one of the biggest honors he’ s ever received; Pete Carr and his two-time world champion bucking horse, Dirty Jacket, were inducted into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2024. It’ s only fitting they were in the same induction class as the Parker County Sheriff’ s Posse Frontier Days and PRCA Rodeo.
This is a story worth telling. He began competing as a teen and rode bareback horses for many years, eventually retiring in 1993, when he began focusing on a commercial construction business. He found great success as a businessman, but he was always a cowboy.
His prosperity in commercial construction is well-established. Many in his shoes would have maintained their focus on the business at hand, but rodeo continued to draw Carr back into the mix. He dabbled in it for several years before investing fully.
Carr followed his heart into the storm that is rodeo, with all the ups and downs that come with a life spent chasing his dreams. He has built a fortress that is
Pete Carr Pro Rodeo, a company that has multiple WPRA Stock Contractor of the Year awards, several nominations as PRCA Stock Contractor of the Year and, more recently, the title of Xtreme Bulls Stock Contractor of the Year.
In addition to Dirty Jacket, which was named the PRCA Bareback Horse of the Year in 2014-15, the Carr firm has also seen world champion horses in Real Deal, Big Tex and Deuces Night. Bayou Bengal has been named the PRCA Bull of the Year, and there are more than 300 Carr animals that have been selected to perform at the National Finals Rodeo.
With more than a dozen years producing the Parker County Sheriff’ s Posse Frontier Days and Rodeo, Pete Carr Pro Rodeo has a great partner in Weatherford. The friendships and relationships that have been developed over the years have solidified and strengthened through trust and a mutual love for the sport of rodeo and the people involved.
Their individual successes are amplified because of the uniformity of their messages. It’ s why rodeo in Weatherford continues to thrive.
