Gifts for Students Through Sponsorships
We are so excited about the bike give-away event at Hanford Dole . With the help of Rev . Timothy Bates ' Man-Up Monday mentoring group and Pittsburg Steeler ’ s player Javon Hargrave , we were able to purchase 100 bikes .
In the fall our students learned to ride bikes through the physical education classes . The county has thirty bikes and helmets that are shared among the elementary schools . We chose to purchase bikes as an extension of the positive experience the students had through this unit . First grade teacher , KatiEarl Bates comments , " I have never seen our students so happy and excited about this particular activity . They loved riding the bikes but most students stated that they did not have a bike at home ."
We wanted to make sure that our students could continue riding bikes even after our bike unit was over . Hanford-Dole P . E . teacher , Sarah Vanbuskirk , surveyed all of our students to determine which students needed a bike . From that initial list , we contacted parents and guardians . It was rewarding being able to reach out to the parents and guardians to communicate to them that their child has been selected to receive a free bike .

We are so fortunate to be able to come together as a community and plant seeds of positivity into the minds of our students . Ever since the Man-Up Monday program began at our school , our students have been positively impacted during the time they get to spend with this mentoring group . Javon , who attended Hanford Dole , has such a kind and giving spirit he wanted to asset Man-Up Monday with extending their positivity by doing something big . I would say purchasing 100 bikes for students who do not have bikes , is something big . With that being sad , we want to extend a BIG thank you to those who made all of this possible . Once again , it is a great day to be a BOBCAT !!
