HRMS Hosts Girl Powered Event
Harris Road Middle School hosted a REC Foundation and VEX
Robotics Girl Powered Event on October 10th. Female students
ranging from 6th-8th grade were treated to a presentation by Stacy
Jarrett of Jarrett Engineering and participated in a hands-on activity
that involved building a structure out of spaghetti noodles and tape.
The REC Foundation and VEX Robotics launched Girl Powered with
a goal to double the participation of girls in robotics over the next
five years. Harris Road will house three competitive robotics teams
starting this year, each consisting of female members in an effort to
help achieve this goal.
Local Professionals Host Trade Events at MPHS
Local masonry professionals have been hosting various educational
sessions for students at Mount Pleasant High School. The sessions,
scheduled throughout the first semester, occur every few weeks and
allow students to gain focused knowledge about the construction
industry. Session highlights range from learning about new software
and heavy equipment to hands-on activities surrounding masonry.
The events also give students the opportunity to network with local
construction companies. The final session in December was setup
similar to a job fair where students could ask questions, connect with
agencies, and potentially begin their career.
The session featured new software and technology in the industry.
Griffin Masonry demonstrated how a drone is used for inventory
management.
Totally cool, y fun!
