Guidelines for Awarding High School Credit( Dual)

of college courses for free. They must also have the recommendation of the administration as students who are capable of handling the additional course load. The general steps to be taken are as follows: complete an online application, including requesting the recommendation from the administration, and either submit SAT scores( students are exempt from the assessment test if they have scored 450 + in English and 500 + in math on the SAT) or take the CT State assessment test. Guidelines for Awarding High School Credit( Dual)

A student may pre-apply to receive high school credit for a course taken at a college on the following conditions: 1. The student must receive at least a C for the course. 2. The course is not required by CCS for graduation unless the course was not made available to the student by CCS, which must be pre-approved by the Secondary Level Principal.
3. A 3-credit, 1-semester college course shall be eligible for dual high school credit of 0.5 credit. Grades earned from colleges offering dual credit will be recorded as Pass / Fail on Cornerstone’ s high school transcript and will not count towards the numeric average or GPA.

GENERAL CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

Homework

Education is an active process. Of necessity, it involves the active practice and independent study of a student, both while in school and at home. Teachers assign homework to aid students in the advancement of their studies. Homework is given for several purposes, such as to provide practice, remedial work, and occasional special projects designed to enhance classroom instruction.
General guidelines for age-appropriate average total amounts of homework per night are as follows
( approximately 10 minutes per grade level):
Grade 1
10 minutes
Grade 2
20 minutes
Grade 3
30 minutes
Grade 4
40 minutes
Grade 5
50 minutes
Grade 6
60 minutes
Grade 7
70 minutes
Grade 8
80 minutes( additional time if placed in advanced math)
Grades 9-12
1.5-2.5 hours( varies with course loads)
This is actual work time and does not include preparation to start homework. If a parent has a concern about the amount of time being required to complete assignments, s / he should speak directly with the classroom teacher.
