Assessments & Deadlines
Students are responsible for providing evidence of their learning within established timelines . When a student is unable to adhere to deadlines , she creates gaps in understanding , thus making it difficult to connect current learning to past learning . Further , she often impacts her success in other courses as her time becomes constrained by her efforts to catch-up on missed learning and / or assessments .
Students understand that :
• They are responsible for demonstrating their learning and that they understand that meeting clearly established deadlines is an accepted and reasonable practice and a vital habit to develop .
• Deadlines help students manage their time effectively and help teachers both acquire a picture of student learning over time and provide timely , effective feedback .
• Student success is recorded on reports as an evaluation of her learning skills and work habits .
• Incomplete and / or late assessments impact on their overall academic progress .
• Late and missed assignments will be recorded in MySchool .
• Parents / guardians will be contacted when the student demonstrates a repeated pattern of late assessments .
• A repeated and / or consistent pattern of delaying assessments is considered an unfair advantage due to the opportunity to improve performance from information about the assessment provided by others . Please see our Philosophy of Academic Honesty & Integrity below .
When students anticipate difficulties in meeting an assessment deadline , they must :
• Discuss this difficulty with the teacher in a timely fashion before the due date and in a face-to-face meeting ; an email message sent the day or night before is not a suitable approach , except under special circumstances .
• Ask for assistance from the subject teacher , if unable to complete an assessment .
• Ask to negotiate a new due date explaining the extenuating circumstances that resulted in the request for alternative arrangements .
• Accept that if an assessment is missed , she will be required to write a comparable assessment at the time and place determined by the teacher and may require a parent / guardian note .
Canvas & MySchool
Canvas is a platform utilized for all courses . Each course ( and co-curricular activity ) has a home page with important course information , as well as resources which will be used throughout the course or activity . Furthermore , all assessments , submissions and lesson outlines will be available via the Canvas pages .
Furthermore , the MySchool calendar is used for all assessments . It is helpful for students to refer to it regularly and clarify with their teachers for tests and major assignment due dates .
