Through the West quadrant , students continue to grow their understanding of the rights and responsibilities of citizenship . Outdoor Education
Outdoor Education ( OE ) is an integral part of student learning and development . We believe that OE enriches the learning of our students , fosters self confidence , resilience and creativity and provides powerful experiences that enable each student to reach her unique potential . OE Ivy Camp Trips provide opportunities for cross-curricular integration , teamwork and leadership development . Activities and programs are designed to be appropriate to each grade level and to support a progression of skill development . From Grade 8 to 12 , all students at Crofton House School participate in an Outdoor Education program once a year .
Outdoor pursuits are lifelong activities that promote physical and emotional well-being for many , and our OE program will challenge students to develop skills within each of the following areas : outdoor skills , personal and social development , environmental education and academic integration .
Goals of Outdoor Education
• Outdoor skills : Safely introduce students to a variety of outdoor activities with opportunities to step outside of their comfort zones .
• Personal and social development : Provide experiences to develop positive character traits such as self-confidence , self-reliance , leadership , teamwork , respect , responsibility and communication .
• Environmental education : Provide experiences for students to connect with the natural world and promote an appreciation of the natural environment and good stewardship of the earth .
• Academic integration : Recognize that outdoor education is part of the total learning experience and can include many subject areas of intellectual awareness .
Grade 8 Outdoor Education
This four-day program at Camp Summit , north of Squamish , marks the beginning of a student ’ s Senior School journey . Through a rotation of initiatives and team building activities , students explore their sense of self and begin to actively build a positive school community . Students will have the opportunity to participate in a series of outdoor adventure pursuits , including mountain biking , rock climbing , a high ropes course , bouldering , archery , team building initiatives , hiking and outdoor living skills . During this camp , students will also participate in an overnight camping trip , where they will learn how to set up a tent , cook on a camping stove , pack a backpack and much more .

This four-day program at Camp Squeah in Hope , BC provides an opportunity for students to take the
