Parent Involvement

Volunteer Opportunities

Although the Senior School does not rely on parent / guardian volunteers to the same degree as the Junior School , there are ways to connect to the life of the School through volunteering . Parents / guardians are encouraged to consider a role on the CHS Parents ’ Auxiliary or in support of auxiliary-supported events such as the Crofton House Winter Bazaar and Senior School service learning activities .

Communication

Parent Evenings
Parent evenings are arranged throughout the year to achieve different purposes . Curriculum night and parent-teacher conferences are a wonderful opportunity to explore the educational program at the School . Prior to course selection , the school hosts grade-specific course information and selection sessions to ensure parents are knowledgeable about decisions their daughter ’ s will make about courses for the next academic year . This is supported by a comprehensive Academic Handbook .
Parents are also encouraged to look for special invitations to listen to visiting speakers . These events provide an opportunity to develop a shared understanding of topics of interest by exploring current themes in education , adolescent development related to girls and how the complexities of society are revealed in the context of a single-gender school . These evenings present opportunities to meet other parents and strengthen connections in the community .
Further engagement
Although more independent in their school life than students in the younger grades , Senior School students do value their parents ’ involvement , particularly as supporters of their activities . As witnesses to athletic competition , drama productions , musical performances and other student-led special events , parents can walk in their daughter ’ s shoes and experience school life .
