Co-Curricular Information

The co-curricular program builds from Grade 1 to 7 with additional choices and options each year for participation . Students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular activities to raise school spirit , practice fair play and teamwork and develop a sense of belonging . Crofton House School offers a variety of co-curricular activities before and after school . Every student is encouraged to choose wisely so that she can enjoy balance in her day . Our program is designed so that students can make choices each year , noting that they have several years to participate in all their preferred options . It is our goal that by the end of Grade 7 each student will be able to try many different opportunities in clubs , athletics and the arts .
Students sign out with the co-curricular teacher at the conclusion of the activity . Students may not wait alone on or off campus for parents to arrive or leave the school without pre-arranged permission ( e . g . walking , biking or bussing home ). These routines are consistent in cocurricular activities , Program Plus and athletics .
Parents are asked to be punctual with the pick-up routine . If a pattern of late pick-ups develops for a student , she may be unable to continue participation in co-curricular activities , Program Plus or athletics .

Activities

Co-curricular activities promote community , friendship and school commitment while enhancing the skills and competencies developed in class . Students are encouraged to try a selection of different experiences that will be in balance with their other academic and personal obligations . Balance is an important concept in co-curricular programming and in order to promote a balanced lifestyle , students will not always be registered for all of their requests . This supports free time without structured activities which we know is an important part of student life . Opportunities include creative arts such as primary and intermediate choirs , visual arts , musical theatre and concerts ; athletics such as cross country , basketball , field hockey , volleyball , fitness challenge , track and field , lunch leagues and intramurals ; clubs such as public speaking , French , cooking , Crofton Chronicle and debating . Selection for clubs with a limited enrolment is made by a draw . We are careful to be certain that the process is as fair as possible .

Program Plus

We support families through our community partnerships so that students are able to participate in community classes ( e . g . dance and art ) right here at CHS . Currently , we are pleased to work with organizations including Arts Umbrella , Byte Camp , and Daedalos Robotics . Program Plus is a fee-based , after-school program ( approx 3:30 pm to 4:45 / 5:00 pm ) for Grades 1 to 4 in partnership with community organizations ( dance , yoga , visual arts , technology ). In Grades 6 to 7 , we offer a leadership program ( Dolphin Kids ) focused on the development of life skills . Information and registration is found on the CHS website and registration is on a term-by-term basis .
