Parent / Guardian Involvement
Junior School Events
Many Junior School events provide families with an opportunity to connect with school life . We always look forward to Curriculum Night , winter concerts , the ECE holiday market , spring concerts , public speaking , Sports Day , CHS Parents ’ Auxiliary events , and more . The specific dates for these and other Junior School special events can be found on the website . The Junior School will always provide dates in advance .
Volunteer Opportunities
When parents / guardians are able to volunteer at school , connection to your daughter is deepened . Girls love to see their parents / guardians at school working alongside teachers and interacting with their friends . Your positive role modelling helps your daughter to develop a sense of service and caring for others . She observes you in a role of leadership . These are powerful messages for young children . All parents / guardians volunteering in the Junior School require a criminal record check which is organized through Human Resources .
Communication
Student success is richly enhanced by connections between home and school . Parents / guardians can always learn more about school by asking their daughter about her day , taking an interest in her work , reviewing her electronic learning portfolio on Seesaw , reading correspondence from the School , accessing school and class information online , attending parent / guardians evenings and conversation mornings and speaking with her teachers .
Junior School teachers and staff are dedicated to being open and available to parents / guardians so that discussion can be timely and meaningful .
With matters of concern , please contact your daughter ’ s classroom teacher first , then the director and then the Head of School .
Parent / Guardian Evenings
Parent / guardian evenings are arranged several times each term to discuss topics of interest , expand on current themes in education and interact with community speakers . These discussion evenings present opportunities to meet other parents / guardians and strengthen your understanding of the school community and classroom programs .
Curriculum Evening is organized in the fall term . This event is designed to allow teachers and parents / guardians to communicate regarding specific classroom routines and grade-specific curriculum expectations for the upcoming year .
Parent / Guardian Coffee Mornings
Once each term , parent / guardians coffee mornings are arranged by grade for open discussion with homeroom teachers , specialist teachers , counsellors and administration . In an informal setting , coffee mornings spark conversation based on parents / guardians ’ questions and comments . The open exchange of comments and feedback builds a strong relationship between home and school . Resources are also shared to support your daughter ’ s school success .
Informal Connections
Informal connections may include telephone calls , notes in agenda books , emails , classroom visits and personally arranged conferences with teachers . These informal , brief and frequent comments are critical components in ongoing , effective communication to support students .
