SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS
Surveillance cameras mounted outside of the School buildings record the activity at School entrances such as gates and doors . Recordings from cameras are stored for a period recommended by a security audit before they are securely destroyed . The recordings are accessible only to administration and staff in the IT department .
RESPONSE TO SECURITY CONCERNS
The campus is staffed for extended hours :
• Until 10:30 pm on school days
• From 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturdays
Outside of these extended hours , facilities can be reached at 604 617 0884 for emergency purposes only .
A third-party security firm patrols the campus when school is not in session .
Should a security issue arise during regular campus hours , all facilities staff carry radio devices to coordinate a response .

School Closure Procedures
A decision to close the School is not taken lightly . The safety of students and staff is a priority . Situations such as inclement weather conditions or the loss of essential services ( e . g ., water and / or power ) may require the School to close . In the case of inclement weather , the School consults weather forecasting services ( i . e ., Environment Canada ) as well as other neighbouring independent schools before deciding on a school closure . Crofton House School also aligns with school closure decisions communicated by the Vancouver School Board ( VSB ). When the closure of VSB schools is announced , Crofton House will also close .
If possible , the School will shift to a late start or early dismissal schedule to provide additional time for safe arrival and departure .
Any change of schedule for the day will be communicated in advance .
Unscheduled Late Start or Early Dismissal
• Parents / guardians will be contacted by automated phone , text message , and email .
• Information will include the revised schedule for the day .
• Events and activities that would take place before the start of the day or after the final classes will be cancelled , including scheduled meetings and co-curricular activities .
Closure Before the Start of the School Day
• Parents / guardians will be contacted by automated phone , text message , and email , provided these services are functional .
• CBC ( 690 AM / 88.1 FM ), CKNW ( AM 980 ) and News 1130 ( AM 1130 ) will be notified as well .
• The recorded phone message at the School will be changed to announce the school closure as soon as possible by the facility ’ s staff .
• Notice of school closure will also be posted on the school website at the earliest opportunity .
• All meetings previously scheduled for the day of the school closure will automatically be cancelled .
• In general , co-curricular events scheduled for the day of the school closure will most likely be cancelled . No students or staff will be on campus when the School is closed , except for facility ’ s staff , as needed .
