Roles and Responsibilities
A coordinated support response involving parents / guardians , the student and the School is required to reduce the risk of anaphylaxis for students who have a life-threatening allergy .
Parents
It is the responsibility of the parent to :
• Teach their “ at risk ” daughter about her allergy , strategies to avoid the allergen ( s ), and when and how to ask for help in the event of an anaphylaxis emergency
• In a timely manner , complete required medical information on the Student Information Questionnaire ( August )
• Complete the Anaphylaxis Information Form in a timely manner
• Provide their daughter with an epinephrine auto-injector ( EpiPen ) and encourage their daughter to carry it at all times
• Depending on the age of the child , meet with the school adults who will help to manage her well-being ( e . g . homeroom teachers , advisors and First Aid Attendants )
• Replace expired EpiPen as required
• Advise the School if their daughter has outgrown an allergy or no longer requires an EpiPen
• Consider having the student at risk of anaphylaxis wear medical identification such as a MedicAlert ® bracelet . The identification could alert others to the individual ’ s allergies and indicate that she carries an EpiPen
Students
It is the responsibility of the student with a lifethreatening allergy , in an age appropriate manner , to :
• Have immediate access to a personal EpiPen
• In an age-appropriate manner , know how to administer EpiPen
• Consider letting their friends and classmates know about their life-threatening allergy
• Avoid situations and foods that present a risk
• Recognize the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis
• Alert someone around them that they are experiencing symptoms
• Cooperate with emergency response personal , as required
• Consider wearing a MedicAlert ® bracelet
School Administration with the Support of Administrative Assistants
It is the responsibility of the School to :
• Communicate with all parents / guardians who identify their daughter as having a lifethreatening allergy by sending them the Anaphylaxis Information Form
• Inform teachers of the process to identify students at risk of anaphylaxis
• Provide all teachers with access to current information on those students who are identified with life-threatening allergies
• Maintain up-to-date and posted ‘ Life- Threatening Allergy ’ information in both Junior and Senior School staff rooms . This information is available in print form in both the Junior and Senior staff workrooms and in the Manrell Hall kitchen
• Ensure on-call teachers are aware of lifethreatening allergies ; this information is in print form in teachers ’ on-call folders

Concussion Protocol

What is a concussion ?
A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury that is caused by a blow to the head or body , a fall or another injury that jars or shakes the brain inside the skull . Like all brain injuries , concussions must be taken seriously .
