Common Injuries and Treatment
Common Injuries and Treatment
Achilles Tendonitis Inflammation of the tendon at the back of the ankle, common in dancers due to overuse, poor technique, or excessive training. Symptoms include gradual pain and tenderness above the heel, often easing with warm-up but worsening with jumping or relevé. Prevention involves stretching the Achilles in parallel and strengthening the quads, hips and core. Treatment includes proper technique and calf stretching. Early intervention is crucial to avoid tendon rupture.
What to know about injury
Despite media hype, All Star carries injury risks similar to other sports. Like any sport, physical activity and contact can lead to injury, making detection, treatment and prevention essential.
ACL Tear A complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, often caused by short landings or over-rotation during tumbling. Treatment typically involves reconstructive surgery and physical therapy.
Concussion A brain injury caused by a jolt to the head, leading to symptoms like headache, nausea, dizziness, sensitivity to light / noise and memory loss. It must be diagnosed by a doctor and requires full rest— typically at least two weeks— with no physical activity. Returning too soon can worsen the injury.
Lower Back Injuries Strains, sprains, fractures, or disc issues— are common due to the sport’ s emphasis on flexibility. While not always serious, persistent pain may require imaging. Most strains respond to rest or physical therapy. Strengthening hamstrings can help prevent injury.
Sprains Partial ligament tears( commonly in the wrist, ankle, or knee) marked by swelling, tenderness and bruising. Treated with rest, ice and activity reduction. Braces or casts may be needed, and arch supports can help prevent lower body sprains.
Tendinitis Tendon inflammation( often in the knee, wrist, or Achilles) from repetitive stress. Treatment includes stretching, strengthening, and modifying activity; rest may be needed for severe cases.
