Another clear use of parabolas is giving structural support to artificial bodies, like bridges or even my chair like in the picture shown before. The strings present in many bridges often use parabolas to counterpart the weight of cars and other bodies going through the bridge, since the straight cable at both ends of the bridge starts tilting downwards because of the forces forcing it that way, therefore forming a parabola and giving structural support to the bridge:
