If your going to tell a story make it a good one

Often CYF caregivers, social workers, lawyers and other professionals and parents/families fail to turn up to an access or appointments. Yes its easy to do with so many dates and appointments that one might get forgotten however if your going to make up an excuse remember its either going to believed or laughed at.... It can also cause a great level of hurt. When it impacts the child.

The hurts of promises made

While a child is in care it is very tempting to tell your

child how you feel. Your sadness, missing them and

the want to keep on fighting for them. This can in your

mind reassure the child but often the reverse happens

for the child in placement. For example a child can

then fail to settle in the placement. Have deep worries

or feelings of guilt that mummy, daddy or other family

members are so sad. A child may not hear the

other words you attach in that conversation so often its

far better not to promise a child that they will be home

soon or that you will fight for them.
