Mitchell Jordan Mayor

Mitchell Jordan is a 45-year-old native of Palestine , Texas . Jordan graduated from Palestine High School , Class of 1998 . After graduation he attended Tyler Junior College for 2 years , and Trinity Valley Community College for one year . Jordan received his intermediate EMT certification before pursuing higher education studies in Government and History . After college , Jordan founded the 501c3 nonprofit organization , Dogwood Youth Sports where he currently serves as president . Additionally , Jordan is the president and founder of the Leadership Educate Achieve Dreams ( LEAD ) nonprofit . The organization is dedicated to improving the way nonprofits serve local communities and have hosted city wide , community building events including " Love Thy Neighbor ", Annual Easter egg hunts , and The Mayor ' s Ball . Jordan is employed by USPS and is a contract employee for FEMA . Jordan served three terms as District 2 City Council member before resigning his term to run for Mayor in 2022 . He is the first African-American Mayor in the city ’ s history , following his late mother ’ s example as the first black woman to hold the title of phone company Operator . Jordan and his wife of 8 years , Tanya , a registered nurse , together have 8 children . Jordan ’ s favorite thing about Palestine is the diversity of the city , as well as , the willingness from the citizens to help one another when in need . He maintains that his motivation is inspired by his children and his passion for history , government and politics .
