with the drugs. Drugs that will make me sleep. Sleep is bad. Bad dreams tor- ment me. Me The author Patient log 4 The patient was distressed today. For this reason, the doctors went in to in- vestigate. Upon entering the room, they found the scattered pages and index cards of what seems to be a handwritten book. Each of the pages and cards was assigned a numbered so we assembled them to help understand what the patient was thinking. It seems the index cards are separated into four parts and form a poem. The other pages seem to be the patient interpreting the poem that they wrote. Interestingly, the patient did not use their own name while writing. For the forward, it is written under the alias Charles Kinbote. The poem is said to be written by a John Shade. Lastly, the commentary is once again said to be done by Charles Kinbote. There are many times within the book that it becomes clear that it is written by a raving lunatic (that is the technical term). 50
