Commentator 2: “Ummm, let’s look at…ah yes, here-page 165: ‘…all kinds of
knockings, especially in the sanctuary, which would rouse Hazel from her, no
doubt, peaceful sleep in the adjacent bedroom.’”
Commentator 1: “Ugh, creepy.”
Commentator 2: “Right? But how would he know that, you know? Like that she
sleeps peacefully or any of those details about her? You’d have to live there or at
least be there pretty often to know those kinds of things.”
Commentator 1: “Right, yeah. Damn that’s weird. What is he even talking
about in that scene anyway?”
Commentator 2: “Oh, some paranormal activity that was going on in the
Shades’ house – ‘saucepans crashing in the kitchen, plates sailing by like discus-
es, lamps lighting up’ on their own, that sort of thing (p. 165).”
Commentator 1: “Oh yeah, I remember reading that part. Didn’t some stuff like
that happen at Kinbote’s house too?”
Commentator 2: “Yeah, yeah, not quite as wild but on page 97 here he describes
how ‘The Goldsworth chateau had many outside doors, and no matter how
