Amanda Oliphant - A painter who loves to work with textures and abstractions. Her latest work shown here give the reader an insight into her approach. The construction is layered and instinctive. The compositions flow from her and are not preconceived. These works were created after the C19 had visited her and laid her up for some weeks. The drive to return to art creation was beyond ignoring as she set about these works, which Tubes are absolutely delighted to include in this special landscape feature. Here, Amanda talks about this particular series of work... “ traces through the Landscape series of paintings are about capturing a feeling – an emotion of a place and time. It is not just about painting the visual landscape, but also about the presence of ‘being’ in that place and connecting to the land. I am using mark making, translucent/ opaque paints and layering techniques that provide a vocabulary of expression. Leaving marks that mean something – the falling away of a stone wall, an endless footpath, random noises, the moving air that interrupts my thoughts…and then the return journey. All elements that help distill an essence of place in both visual and emotional ways. Its about not only ‘what I see’ but about ‘how’ you observe and feel in that place – feeling a part of the landscape allows your senses to be awakened. Being influenced by the open expanse and imaginative landscapes of old masters like JMW Turner, his devotion to capture the feeling of the power and beauty of nature – in paint – being close to one’s God, and more recent contemporary artists using pure abstraction, dismissing the need for any representation.” www.amandaoliphant.co.uk email: [email protected] The painting are all from the series “Traces through a Landscape” Top: Tryptych -1220mm x 510mm - Cold Wax Medium on board. middle left: 300mm x 305mm Cold Wax Medium on MDF. bottom left: 300mm x 300mm Cold Wax Medium on panel bottom right: 760mm x 510mm Cold Wax Medium on Panel
