2020 just sucks . This applies to everything , but it is amplified in paintball . So many events were canceled this year that to list them would be an article all by itself . I think that one of the most devastating cancelations of this year though was the Iron City Classic . Not because it is more important than any of the other events but because we lost Tim Montressor , the driving force behind the event as well . Tim loved the ten-man format and missed it . You see the format had never really failed . The “ powers that be ” behind most paintball events , looking to improve the game , decided that newer formats would be more marketable . A lot of players however just missed the old ways . Tim believed that the ten-man format could be revived — so on a $ 500 bet , Tim set out to create an old school event that would revive the grit and tenacity of days gone by . In three short years , this event became “ THE ” paintball event to be at for the year . It sold out in minutes online . Regardless of their primary playing styles , everyone who played tournament paintball , wanted to play the “ ICC ” as it became known .
On June 22 , 2020 … Tim passed away due to complications form Covid-19 and the 2020 event was canceled ( rightly so ) shortly afterwards .
So , what happens now ? Well , I was lucky enough to have the new people in charge of the Iron City Classic on my podcast a couple weeks ago . It was an amazing show and I highly recommend checking it out on the Paintball Media Facebook page ( https :// www . facebook . com / www . Paintball . Media / videos / 1287755078243161 ) but it was an hour and a half in length though so I thought that I might sum up the video with the parts that pertain to the Iron City Classic .
