Rumblings began after the Sunshine State Open in March that the Diamonds franchise was in turmoil and that internal conflicts had arisen . Players and owners did not see eyeto-eye and it appeared that both sides felt they were not receiving equitable return on agreements that were made .
In early June , a sudden move was made and the entire organization was sent a group message that they had been cut and were no longer part of the team , and within a week , the players were contacted with an offer from another potential owner to come to tryouts .
The Diamonds were under a contractual obligation with the WNXL to put in a team in all three of the major NXL events this season - Sunshine State , Windy City , and World Cup respectively . By securing a buyer for the team , the Bains ’ fulfilled that obligation .
Owner Karen Bains was quoted in the announcement with a statement saying , “ It ’ s been a pleasure being part of the WNXL and this owners ’ group . We look forward to seeing everyone at events and watching the ladies compete on the premier field .”
The sudden announcement left many people asking if they are witnessing the first signs of a breakdown within the WNXL , but on the contrary , the speed and professionalism with which the matter was dealt shows that the leadership of the league has fail safes in place , and remains united in their mission to grow the sport for women in paintball .
The St . Louis Arch Angels will make their debut in Chicago at the Windy City Major September 15-17 . www . paintball . media
