BEFOREwe begin on our journey of exploring the history of scenario paintball, it is important to define what we are looking at- and what we are not. Scenario ball is a particular facet of our beloved sport, yet the term“ scenario” itself is often used as a rather nebulous label to encompass everything that is not a tournament. That’ s not entirely accurate.
Consider a funnel. Most people will find the sport of paintball through a pickup game or a birthday party. This is the top of the funnel.
The pickup style of play is recreational( or rec) ball. Whether it is an officiated game hosted at an organized and sanctioned field, or a renegade game held with a scuba tank for air refills in the back woods of New York, these beginnerlevel games will typically come in one of three flavors: attack-and-defend, capture the flag, or last-man standing. Simple games, easy to officiate.
From there, players find themselves in two buckets. Both are highly competitive in their own right, but there is typically a divide between those who prioritize the body and athleticism and those who focus on the mind- strategy, networking, resource management, and gamesmanship. The former will often gravitate to tournament competition, and the latter while find themselves on the scenario path.
Tournaments come in countless numbers of formats, but the four major branches are determined by the style of bunkers used. www. paintball. media
