Charles Gaines , Hayes Noel , Bob Gurnsey - By now almost everyone knows the story . Gaines , Noel , and Gurnsey were the three that birthed the game in 1976 ( although their first game didn ’ t happen until 1981 ) we now call paintball . Bob and Charles were the driving forces behind the National Survival Game , the company that brought paintball to the masses in the early 1980 . And under Bob ’ s leadership the NSG introduced many products to the game including the first ever marker designed specifically for paintball ( Splatmaster , 1985 ). Bob also founded the first tournament series in 1983 ( NSG Tournament Series ).
Maurice Gibb – The celebrity who has influenced paintball the most thus far in the game ’ s history , Maurice Gibb loved the paintball and played numerous scenario games and tournaments for several seasons , and even opened his own paintball store in Florida ! If you ’ re too young to have any idea who Maurice Gibb is , go ask your parents to play you a song like “ Stayin ’ Alive .” That ’ s right , Maurice , with his brothers Robin and Barry , were the Bee Gees , one of the most successful bands of all time . Commander Mo , as his friends called him , envisioned taking paintball mainstream with major tournaments at lavish locations in the Caribbean and , after his untimely death , had a tournament named after him , the NPPL Commander ’ s Cup . www . paintball . media
