an experience of a lifetime for me . When we arrived in Sydney we were picked up by the tournament promoter in a 20-person mini-bus and he drove us around in that thing every day and night , showing us the area when we weren ’ t playing .
The event was incredible . When we got to the field the day before the event started for a field walk , players from Australia were waiting for us like we were rock stars . They had magazine covers and articles in hand asking for autographs and they literally bought everything we brought with us from home when the event ended . They literally bought the clothes off our backs … and all of our gear . But they were so welcoming to us .
The not-so-great memory from that event was we didn ’ t win it . In fact ,
John ( far right )) with Bad Company in Australia to that date in history , we were the only American Pro team to NOT win in Australia [ laughs ]. We played 18 games and went 16-2 . In the final game the team we played against , who we already annihilated in the preliminary rounds , had a great game plan . On the break , all ten played jumped into the trenches on the field and then up into the 5 or 6 busses on their half of the field . They opened the windows and fired out as we moved . Once they shot one of us they literally hid in the busses until the game ended . The other 16 teams watching booed them mercilessly [ laughs ]. But seriously , they did what they had to do to win and it worked .
What can you tell me about the culture of the original Bad Company ? And how did that shape you as an individual player ?
