One of the great things about making a 40-year career in paintball is that I get to travel a lot . So I get to see family all the time as they are scattered all over the US .
Quick family story : When I met Brenda in 1995 this paintball thing was all new to her . We were barely dating and her parents flew from Minnesota to Orlando to watch me play at the World Cup . They were so intrigued by the game they wanted to see it for themselves , even that early on . They followed the team around , game by game all four days . By the end of the weekend Merrlyn , my future motherin-law , was wearing an “ Amodea ” Bad Company Jersey around the fields with this huge smile on her face . They came to many of our events over the years . Bill and Merrlyn , my in-laws , are two of the most amazing people I have ever met . Sadly she passed earlier this year at age 86 . She lived a great life .
For those who don ’ t know , what teams did you play with and when ?
I played on a bunch of no-name teams from 1986 to 1989 and then started a team called Badlanders in 1990 , the home team to my field , Virginia Badlands . Our better players merged with a team called Phantom Force in 1992 and in our first year playing the NPPL we won four of the five events we entered , and won the NPPL fiveman title that year .
Our five-man team then got picked up by Bad Company , which was one of the top 4 or 5 teams in the pro game throughout the 1990s .
Can you share one of your standout moments or memories from your tournament era ?
In 1996 we ( Bad Company ) were invited to compete in the largest tenman tournament held in Australia . It
