I am sitting here looking over my notes about World Cup , what I did , who I met , and the chaos of the weekend and all I can think about is that movie called Almost Famous . You know the one about the high school writer that travels all over the states with a semi famous band ? Yep , that one . My weekend could have been a movie just like it . I mean , I almost got beat up by Houston Heat !
To start with , I live east of Toronto so just getting to World Cup is a challenge . I must take two trains and then two planes as direct flights are out of my price range . Add to that , all the border concerns that I must deal with due to the current COVID-19 pandemic . It is basically 10 + hours ’ worth of traveling for me to get to Florida . The time spent traveling however was more than worth it … after all … this is WORLD CUP !
I should have known right away that this weekend was going to be one hell of a ride when I was asked for my autograph at Pearson International Airport while waiting for my flight . I signed some young gentleman ’ s Nintendo Switch case . I have never had someone come out of the blue and ask for an autograph before . Not for my little podcast .
Once I got to Kissimmee Florida though … oh man … the party started . First let me say that Misfit Toys and the Denver Expendables ( that is my team ) got together and rented a 7-bedroom mansion . We had everything ! We had a smoker , a BBQ , a hot tub , a pool , giant TV . The whole backyard was screened in so there weren ’ t any bugs . This place was amazing . I was there just long enough to change out of my Canada clothes and into shorts before my team grabbed me and we headed for Texas BBQ ! I ate myself into a brisket coma .
Friday morning started with biscuits and gravy because my team knows if I do not get that at least once when I am in the states , they have a cranky Canadian on their team . Then it was off to the field . I took the UltraShocker that had been given to me given to me in a “ pay it forward ” situation earlier this year and a gold sharpie with the intensions of collecting signatures . www . paintball . media
