Cornelia Wallace , former wife of Alabama Governor George Wallace was the first female to play the game . Wallace was invited to the first game but was unable to attend . She did however , play in the second game of Survival ever played on November 14 , 1981 in Camden ( Wilcox ) Alabama . Although she captured all of the flags and exited the field first , she was called out with a pinhead worth of paint on her clothing . “ Those good old southern boys weren ’ t going to let a women win ,” Charles Gaines said in the film , The Complete History of Paintball .

On June 28 , 1981 the contestants and their families from the game the day before participated in the “ backyard
Olympics ” at Gaines ’ house .
The original 12 players on the morning of that first game on June 27 , 1981 .
The group that were invited by Gaines , Gurnsey and Noel to play that first game were no regular Joes . There was a surgeon , a former Gold Glover boxer and college basketball player , a forester , three national level professional writers , a racecar driver and downhill skier , world reknown hunters stock traders and more . www . paintball . media
