After a short time we added Gavin Sharma and Josh Zuby Zubrickas and that is how it has mostly been for almost ten years ! Following the addition of Gavin and Josh , we built a proper studio set and changed it about a half dozen times as technology changed as well as locations we rented out .
Do you have a background in broadcasting , television , etc .? I do not have any broadcasting experience prior to doing this show , but back in high school I did do a co-op term working at a local radio station . Let ’ s be honest , that was really just to deliver pizza lunches to that offices that won on air contests . I would arrive with pizza and they would all be disappointed that the radio personalities didn ’ t show up and instead they got me ! I also worked at a 2000 patron nightclub where I learned all of the technical aspects behind the scenes of light and sound and became quite good at all things audio visual . At that same time , I was learning graphic design for the in-house digital ads and started to experiment with live video streaming .
Tell us a bit about Joe , Josh and Gavin , the other regular hosts of the show . Joe Kimpson is my brother in law and business partner with Flag Raiders Paintball . We actually met years ago when I was working at the nightclub as he was a regular and someone who would work his way to the front of the line and to schmooze his way in . True story ; once while working , I was called over as a security guard had an issue with Joe . Before having the chance to throw Joe out , Joe took it upon himself to escort himself out as the security followed in disbelief behind him ! Josh and Gavin were players , friends , then staff and Field Generals for our big games . Over their time at Raiders , we all became good friends and it ’ s easy having them on the show . Even now , we talk about paintball when we ’ re not in front of cameras . I have known these guys for more than 20 years .
The chemistry of the crew is for me , the best part of Behind The Bunker . Did that come naturally for everyone , or is it something you ’ ve all had to work on ? To be honest , our chemistry comes from spending too much time together . I have been around them for so long that at this point , I am not sure if we all still like each other ?! We have been going to counselling and that seems to be working and keeping us civil to each other .
BTB has a loyal following and are very interactive . How did you build that culture ? I realized early on that talking to a camera was not much fun and when I discovered a
way to have a live chat module built so we could see comments from the live viewers , that was a game changer !
